Rap group seeking court dismissal

Submitted by: kirkland on Tuesday September 05th, 2006 at 10:34 AM EST

Rap group Three 6 Mafia have asked a judge to dismiss legal action brought by a man who claims their song provoked a violent attack on him.

Ramone Williams, then 19, alleges he suffered serious injuries when set upon at a concert in Pittsburgh in 2003 during the track Let's Start A Riot.

The Oscar-winning group's lawyer said there was no evidence to show that the song had prompted the attack.

The motion also stated that lyrics are protected under free speech rights.

Mr Williams alleges he was thrown to the floor, hit with a chair, stamped on and kicked in the face during the attack on 26 August 2003. His injuries included a fractured jaw.
